Got questions?
We have answers.

What is mental illness?

Mental illness is an umbrella term for a variety of different mental health conditions such as major depressive disorder, general anxiety disorder, schizophrenia, eating disorders, and many others. Mental illnesses can cause you stress and have a negative effect on your ability to function on an everyday basis and interact with others.

How can I treat my mental health condition?

Most mental health conditions can be managed by specific treatments prescribed by healthcare practitioners and by attending psychotherapy or counselling sessions with licensed mental health professionals. Other things such as getting the right amount of sleep, exercise and eating well, can contribute to mental health treatment.

What types of treatment do you offer?

Felix offers treatment for mental health conditions such as general anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder. Speak to your healthcare practitioner about which treatment is right for you.

Am I covered by my insurance?

Medication coverage varies greatly between different plans, provinces and has specific criteria that determine eligibility. We recommend that you upload your private and/or provincial benefit card during the online visit so that our pharmacy partner can apply any coverage you are eligible for before shipping your meds.

How does this visit work?

After creating an account, you will complete a medical assessment for evaluation by one of the Felix healthcare practitioners.

For patients with an ongoing and longstanding, effective mental health treatment, your consultation may be performed asynchronously, meaning your Felix practitioner will message you through your account after you submit your online assessment. You will have the opportunity to send your practitioner questions via your secure account. Practitioners may determine you require an audio or video visit, or may complete the assessment via secure messaging alone.

For patients who have not previously been prescribed mental health medication, you will be offered a 30 minute audio or video consultation with a Felix practitioner. This appointment will help determine the best treatment plan for you.

Once your visit has been completed, whether asynchronously or by audio/video appointment, if your practitioner has determined a prescription treatment is appropriate, they will write you a prescription. Our pharmacy will then ship your prescription to your home.

You’ll be able to message your healthcare practitioner if you have questions about your medication or want to make changes to your treatment at any time.

Will I receive follow up from my Felix healthcare practitioner?

Yes. Follow-up visits help us monitor how you are doing and how you are responding to treatment. If you are starting a new medication, generally you’ll be given a two month supply. We will send you an email to start a follow-up visit after 30 days. If your medication is longstanding and you’re doing well on it, generally we will supply six months of medication. We will send you an email to start a follow-up visit after 90 days. These follow-up visits are necessary in order to obtain your prescription and continue receiving your medication.

Who will be helping me?

After you complete your online assessment, we will match you to a Felix healthcare practitioner. Your healthcare practitioner will work with you to determine the best treatment plan for you. You’ll be able to message your healthcare practitioner if you have questions about your medication or want to make changes to your treatment.

Who are the Felix healthcare practitioners?

Healthcare practitioners at Felix are hand-selected, qualified doctors and nurse practitioners from across Canada. They are the same practitioners that you could see at a doctor’s office or hospital. Our healthcare practitioners undergo a rigorous selection process.

Is Felix right for me?

Felix may be right for you if you are experiencing symptoms of anxiety or depression and are looking to have your mental health medication safely prescribed online and delivered to your door.

Felix is not the right solution for you if any of the following is true:

  • You have thoughts of hurting yourself or others
  • You are a minor or you are under the care of a legal guardian
  • You are in an urgent crisis or an emergency situation
  • If you have a mental health diagnosis such as psychosis or schizophrenia.
  • You are required to undergo therapy or treatment either by a court order or by any other authority
  • You do not have a device that can connect to the Internet or you do not have a reliable Internet connection
Can Felix substitute for traditional face-to-face therapy?

Felix’s healthcare practitioners are licensed, credentialed and certified to provide medical care. They will likely suggest that you also attend psychotherapy or counselling, which is typically helpful for mental health. Felix is not currently capable of face-to-face therapy with a psychotherapist or counsellor, but these services are self-referral and widely available in communities across Canada.

How will I communicate with my healthcare practitioner?

You can exchange secure messages with your Felix healthcare practitioner at any time, from anywhere, using any Internet-connected device. The chat is available 24/7 and since messaging is not in real-time it doesn't require scheduling. We’ll send you an email when your healthcare practitioner has replied to your message. Practitioners may take 1-2 days to respond to messages, so secure messaging should not be used for emergencies. If you’re having an emergency or suicidal thoughts, please call 911 or attend the emergency department as appropriate.

Do you prescribe Ativan?

No, Felix practitioners cannot prescribe controlled medications like Ativan. We suggest you speak with your family doctor, local walk-in clinic, or psychiatrist about this medication.

Do you prescribe Zoplicone?

No, Felix practitioners cannot prescribe controlled medications like Zoplicone. We suggest you speak with your family doctor, local walk-in clinic, or psychiatrist about this medication.

Do you prescribe Ritalin? Do you prescribe Adderall, Biphentin, Concerta or Vyvanse?

No, Felix practitioners cannot prescribe controlled medications like these. We suggest you speak with your family doctor, local walk-in clinic, or psychiatrist about these medications. Felix healthcare practitioners do not treat ADHD online.

I completed my online visit. Now what?

Great, you’ve already taken the first step! Next, a healthcare practitioner will review your assessment and if necessary, will send you a link to book an online audio or video appointment with them. This appointment will help them determine the best treatment plan for you. If your healthcare practitioner thinks you will benefit from medication, they will write you a prescription. Our pharmacy will then ship your prescription to your home.

My healthcare practitioner sent me a link to book an audio or video appointment. How will that work?

We use Zoom for Healthcare to conduct our appointments. Our virtual visits are 100% HIPAA compliant, never recorded, and encrypted to protect your privacy.

After receiving the booking link from your healthcare practitioner, you will first need to schedule a time to meet with them. We will then send you an email with your appointment details - including the day, time and Zoom instructions. At the scheduled time, you will need to click the Zoom link (for video calls) or dial the phone number listed in the email (for audio calls).

Appointments typically include a discussion of your physical and mental health history. Your practitioner will talk with you about your symptoms and the reason for the appointment as part of their process to create the best treatment plan for you.

How can I prepare for my audio or video appointment?
  1. Make sure you have a computer, laptop, smartphone or tablet with Internet access.
  2. If your Felix healthcare practitioner requested a video appointment with you, make sure you have the Zoom app downloaded.
  3. Test your device’s video and audio in a test meeting at zoom.us/test. Please also adjust your device settings to allow pop-ups, ensuring any pop-up blocker features are turned off.
  4. Be in a location that is quiet, private, and free from distractions.
  5. Check your email. You’ll have instructions to join your Zoom appointment.
  6. Stay calm! If this is your first telehealth visit, it can feel overwhelming. Consider having a tech savvy family member or friend close by in case you need help.

Can I see the same Felix practitioner after my initial assessment?

When your prescription is nearing completion, we will email you to submit a free checkup visit so one of our prescribers can renew your prescription.
